CEDAR LAKE BOATING RULES AND REGULATIONS  



  



  TO HELP US KEEP OUR LAKE SAFE THE BOAT SAFETY COMMITTEE

OF CLOA WILL BE CHECKING THE FOLLOWING:

                                                                                     
1.  CURRENT STATE AND CLOA STICKERS ON YOUR BOATS. THESE SHOULD BE PLACED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF BOATS AT THE REAR. ALL BOATS (POWERBOATS, CANOES, ROWBOATS, SAILBOATS, SAILBOARDS, PONTOON BOATS AND PADDLE BOATS) ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE CLOA STICKERS.
 
2. BOATS MUST HAVE LIFE JACKETS OR FLOTATION DEVICES ABOARD FOR EACH PERSON OCCUPYING THE BOAT- AND CHILDREN UP TO 12 YEARS OF AGE MUST WEAR THE LIFE JACKET.

3.  BOAT OPERATORS MUST BE ABLE TO PRODUCE STATE LICENSES.

4.  BOAT OPERATORS MUST HAVE AN OBSERVER IN THE BOAT WHEN PULLING SKIERS. OBSERVERS MUST BE AT LEAST 12 YEARS OF AGE.

5.  SKIERS MUST WEAR LIFE JACKETS, VESTS OR WET SUITS.

6. FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL BOATS WITH GAS MOTORS.

7.  ALL SWIMMERS MUST BE WITHIN 75 FT. OF SHORE UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A BOAT. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO SWIMMERS USING ANY TYPE OF FLOTATION DEVICE (TUBES, RUBBER RAFTS, ETC).

8.  ALL POWER BOATS AND OTHER WATERCRAFT MUST BE OPERATED IN A SAFE MANNER AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE BOATING REGULATIONS AND CLOA.

9.  ALL BOAT TRAFFIC SHALL OPERATE IN A COUNTER CLOCKWISE DIRECTION.

10.  BOATS OPERATING AFTER DARK SHALL MAINTAIN A 6-MILE PER HOUR OR LESS SPEED LIMIT AND LIGHTS MUST BE VISIBLE ON ALL BOATS POWERED OR NON-POWERED 1/2 HOUR AFTER SUNSET (MANDATORY PER STATE REGULATIONS).
    
11.  NO WATER SKIING IS ALLOWED 1/2 HOUR AFTER SUNSET.

12.  THE OPERATION OF JET-SKIS ON THE WATERS OF CEDAR LAKE IS PROHIBITED.

13.  STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF "NO WAKE" AND MARKED SPEED LIMIT AREAS SHALL BE MAINTAINED.
                           
IF YOU ARE FOUND TO BE IN VIOLATION OF ANY OF THESE REGULATIONS YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED AND IF THE SAME VIOLATION OCCURS THE STATE D.E.P. WILL BE NOTIFIED. 

PLEASE BE COURTEOUS IF YOU ARE VISITED BY ONE OF OUR SAFETY
PATROL OFFICERS - THEY ARE ONLY LOOKING OUT FOR YOUR SAFETY 
AND THE SAFETY OF ALL THOSE ON THE LAKE.

   CLOA BOAT REGISTRATION
    
 All watercraft must have a valid CLOA annual boat sticker. This includes all POWERBOATS, and all NON-POWERED watercraft (i.e.: Canoes, Kayaks, Rowboats, Paddle, Sailboats, Sailboards and Inflatables).

 
 BOAT REGISTRATION CHECKLIST: 

[   ] PAID ANNUAL DUES
As soon as you have paid your annual dues, the Treasurer will  advise the Boat Registration Chairperson who will contact you at their earliest convenience. If you need stickers quickly, please contact them.

[   ]  VALID CT BOAT REGISTRATION
You must possess a valid CT boat registration for all POWERBOATS.   This includes any watercraft (even sailboats) with a gas or electric motor.

[   ]  $I00,000 LIABILITY INSURANCE
This applies to all POWERBOATS up to 25 hp and NON-POWERED watercraft or any kind. Check with your insurance company.  This type of coverage is usually included with your homeowner's policy, but all watercraft must be identified in your policy. CLOA must have a copy or this coverage for your membership file each year.

[   ]  $300,000 LIABILITY INSURANCE
This applies to all POWERBOATS over 25 hp.  Check with your insurance company.  YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED A SPECIAL POLICY FOR THIS COVERAGE; all watercraft must be identified in your policy. CLOA must have a copy or this coverage for your membership file each year

     
 REGULATIONS                     
  
At this time, each member is allowed the following:

POWER BOATS - MAXIMUM OF THREE (3) ...
One (1) may be over 25 hp.
Two (2) may be up to 25 hp. / electric (any combo)
Pontoon boats do not have any horsepower limit.


NON-POWERED WATERCRAFT
Rowboats, Paddle Boats, Canoes, Kayaks, Dinghies, Sailboats, Sailboards, Inflatable boats. 

A MAXIMUM OF FIVE (5) WATERCRAFT IS ALLOWED

NOTE: 
(1) Pontoon boats cannot exceed 25' in length.
(2) All other watercraft cannot exceed 22' in length.
(3) No motorized personal watercraft allowed.
(4) All watercraft must be owned by the CLOA member/owner and identified in their insurance policy.
